Desert Bloom: A Maternity Session Among the Desert X Art Installations

This maternity session happened right in the middle of Desert X, among the towering blue poles set out across the Coachella Valley. Miles of open sand, mountains in every direction, and one mama-to-be who wanted a backdrop as big as the chapter she’s stepping into. It’s a quiet kind of session. Not much posing, just scale and stillness and the anticipation that comes with waiting on someone new.

Art Meets Anticipation

Those blue poles throw long shadows across the sand this time of day, and they framed her silhouette perfectly against the mountains in the distance. Art built for wide open space, paired with a body doing its own quiet work of growing something. The desert light caught every fold of her black gown as she moved between the poles, slow and unhurried, in no rush to get anywhere.

A Family in Waiting

Her partner joined for the second half of the session, and that’s when things loosened up. They walked hand in hand between the poles, stopped to hug, laughed about something only the two of them knew. Toward the end we moved inside for one more portrait, her settled into an old peacock chair against a white curtain with a woven basket at her feet. Different light, same feeling. Two people getting ready for a third.

If you’re expecting and want photos that actually feel like this stage of your life, out in the desert or wherever makes sense for you, I’d love to hear from you. Reach out through the contact page and let’s talk about what you have in mind.
