Some couples would push a ceremony indoors at the first sign of rain. Landis and Ryan didn’t. They said their vows outdoors in Joshua Tree anyway, surrounded by the park’s twisted namesake trees and tucked right up against a dramatic mountainside, and honestly, the weather only added to it — soft, overcast light and a little drama in the sky instead of the usual flat desert sun.
Ryan is a Navy veteran, and there was something fitting about a wedding day built around resilience and showing up regardless of conditions. Joshua Tree’s landscape has that same quality — stark, a little rugged, beautiful in a way that doesn’t need perfect weather to prove it. The ceremony backdrop alone, with its scattered boulders and endless sky, gave the day a scale that a traditional venue just can’t match.
Once the vows were said, the celebration moved to Pioneertown for a livelier second half — a fitting contrast to the quiet, elemental ceremony that came before it. Rustic wooden storefronts and a real Old West feel gave the reception its own distinct character, a nice complement to the wide-open desert where the day began.
